Quilt of Valour Recipients – 2025

On behalf of QOV Canada and Canadians from coast to coast to coast, in the presence of family it was a true honour and a first for Manitoba Quilts of Valour to make a three generations Quilt of Valour presentation to a deserving family of veterans on 19 July 2025 in St Boniface, Manitoba. Athanase “Tony” Vincent served in WWII with The Winnipeg Grenadiers. Tony joined the war effort in 1943 where he went to Cornwall, Prince Rupert and Nanaimo for training. He then deployed to Kiska, Alaska, as part of the 13th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group. Mr Vincent deployed to England and Holland until the end of the war. Mr. Vincent will be celebrating his 103rd birthday on 27 July. Tony’s son Paul Vincent proudly served our country for almost 42 years. Paul served his first seven years with the 8th Canadian Hussars in Petawawa followed by the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Traffic Technician and Loadmaster for the remainder of his career. Paul had posting in Winnipeg, Alsask, Cold Lake, Edmonton, NDHQ Ottawa, Trenton and back to Ottawa. Paul deployed to Egypt and took part in countless missions as a loadmaster during his career. Tony’s grandson and Paul’s son Christopher Vincent has been serving and continues to proudly serve our country for the past 36 years. Chris enrolled in the reserves as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator and later transferred to the Regular Forces as a Vehicle Technician. Chris had postings in Kingston, Petawawa and continues to serve in Edmonton. Chris had deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. A special thank you to quilters Liliane Whalen and the late Camilla Gallibois of O-Ho guild and quilted by Liliane Duchesneau for Tony’s beautiful quilt. Also a big thank you to the Manitoba Quilters for Paul’s Quilt and to the Riverside Quilters of Lac du Bonnet for Christopher’s Quilt. Congratulations to Tony, Paul and Christopher for this well deserved recognition, thank you to the Vincent family for your service to our country.
